Communication Systems: An alternative way of providing practical and efficient communication
solutions for protection from loud sounds and noisy environments.

  • FM System – Is most useful in places where it is hard to face the person who is speaking. The speaker clips a small amplifier to a belt and talks into a small microphone and the listener wears earphones or headphones that amplify the speaker’s voice.
  • Induction Loop – Is useful in a variety of settings. The loop is a wire that surrounds a designated area. A microphone near the speaker sends a signal via the wire to your hearing aid equipped with a telecoil.
  • Infrared System – Is most useful indoors. This system uses an invisible light beam to transmit sound from the speaker to the lightweight earphones or a neck loop. It can also be used to amplify television programs without disturbing others in the room. This system is similar to an FM system, but transmits using radio waves.

Telephone Systems

  • AmplifiedPhones: A specialized telephone that enables a person with moderate to severe hearing loss to make sounds not only louder but also clearer and easier to understand.
  • CaptionedPhones: A specialized telephone designed to interact with the CapTel captioning service in order to display captions. It can also be used as a traditional amplified telephone. For more information go to: www.nyrelay.com.
